黃維垣 有機化學家，1921年12月15 生于福建莆田。 1943 年獲福建協和大學理學士學位。 1949 年獲廣州嶺南大學碩士學位。 1952 年獲美國哈佛大學化學系哲學博士學位。1952----1955 年美國哈佛大學化學系博士后。 1955 年至今在中國科學院上海有機化學研究所工作，歷任副研究員、研究員、副所長、所長，中國科學院上海分院副院長，中國化學會理事長，國際純粹與應用化學協會理事等。1980年當選為中國科學院院士( 學部委員 )。

　　黃維垣在美國及回國初期，從事甾體類天然產物化學研究，在甾體合成和甾體立體化學領域中作出了貢獻。1958 年以后,根據國防建設的需要，在中國相繼開展了有機硼化學和有機氟化學的研究，是中國有機氟化學的主要開拓人之一。他創建了有機氟化學研究室，研制成功氟塑料、氟油、含氟表面活性劑、氟碳代血液等一系列含氟材料，為中國有機氟化學工業奠定了堅實的基礎，其中：全氟潤滑油獲得國家發明證書，為中國鈾同位素分離提供了關鍵材料；新型鉻霧抑制劑獲國家發明獎三等獎，為鍍鉻工人的身體健康和環境保護作出貢獻；氟碳代血液獲中國科學院科技進步獎一等獎，曾被用于戰爭中的傷員搶救手術，并在醫院臨床和臟器的保存中得到實際應用。

　　與此同時，黃維垣在有機氟化學的基礎研究領域中也取得了重要的成就，在國際上享有很高的聲譽。他發現的“亞磺化脫鹵反應”可以在溫和的條件下將全氟鹵代烷轉化成相應的亞磺酸鹽，進而可以方便地得到全氟烷基羧酸、磺酸、磺酰鹵等一系列重要的含氟有機原料；在此基礎上，他對全氟烷基亞磺酸鹽和磺酰鹵的化學以及全氟烷基自由基化學進行了深入系統的研究，發展出許多有效的全氟烷基化方法，成功地應用于各類含氟有機化合物，特別是含氟雜環化合物的合成，極大地推動了有機氟化學的發展，進一步豐富了雜環化學和物理有機化學的內容。在他的帶領下，中國的氟化學研究在一片空白的情況下只經過短短幾十年就趕上了世界少數幾個發達國家，上海有機化學研究所被國外同行譽為世界上最重要的有機氟化學研究中心之一。為表彰他對氟化學研究所作出的杰出貢獻，在1986年法國巴黎舉辦的氟元素發現100周年紀念會上，他被授予“MOISSAN”獎章。

　　黃維垣共發表研究論文190余篇，他的甾體化學和新發現的亞磺化脫鹵反應兩項成果先后獲得國家自然科學獎二等獎。

　　黃維垣長期擔任國務院學位委員會委員和中國科學院上海有機化學研究所學位委員會主任，對于中國研究生制度的建設，特別是上海有機化學研究所的研究生培養工作發揮了的作用。他自己已為國家培養了21位博士和29名碩士。

　　黃維垣長期擔任《化學學報》主編，并創辦了《 Chinese Journal of Chemistry 》刊物，為中國化學學術刊物的發展作出了重要貢獻。
